Home Tour | Sewing table inspiration | Raleigh, North Carolina | The School of Styling - A three-day hands-on workshop for creative entrepreneurs.  http://www.theschoolofstyling.com

Welcome to my cozy + happy home! I have always loved decorating and design, and it’s fun seeing how my decor and style has both remained the same yet evolved over the years. I am inspired by Southern touches, hospitality, comfort, and classic touches with plenty of pops of color and an abundance of natural light + airy touches. As much as I sometimes would like to decorate in only neutrals, color definitely has my heart! I adore lots of white and gray, heavily accented with navy, coral, and some pink, green, and teal. I think anyone who knows me personally would say that my home accurately reflects my personality and my style. And because of this, it really feels like home.

I love drawing inspiration for my home from a plethora of places. Very little of it came together overnight, and it has been much more of a process of collecting items that I love and curating my home to reflect my style. I love bringing nature indoors, as I’m continually inspired by the beauty of nature. Whether it’s a live house plant, adorning my side tables with succulents, or collecting natural elements (like shells of driftwood) from my travels, I think that adding greenery and life to your home is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to hone your style and elevate your home. I like to layer in plenty of natural textures and add interest in the details. Nature and the world are places where I’m always inspired, and traveling and drawing from other cultures can also heavily influence your home’s style. I really love to travel, and I’ve incorporated plenty of oil paintings from my time in Greece and abroad around my home. One of my favorite things to do is to pick out souvenirs when I’m traveling, no matter where I go, to display.

Books are also a huge part of who I am, which is reflected in how I decorate my home. I’ve always been an avid reader, and I’ve been collecting books my entire life. Since this is such a large part of who I am, it only makes sense to incorporate books into my home’s decor. Whether it’s collecting beautiful vintage books for display or setting out my favorite Rifle Paper Co. classics or filling a bookcase with books by color, it’s a unique, personal way to decorate. There are so many pretty (and wonderful!) books out there, and I love having them at my fingertips. And since I have so many books that are so accessible, my friends can always borrow them easily, too! Maybe there’s something else that you have a large collection of that would be a great addition to your home and reflect your personal style.

I’m also a big believer in doing what you love, especially when it comes to decorating in your home! Start by layering pieces that you truly like and value. Some decor may be trendy now, but if it’s not something you actually love, then simply avoid it. I also love displaying beautiful images of my family and friends, as well as inspiring and meaningful verses and quotes. Showcasing what you love (images of family and friends, finds from your travels, a collection, pieces with value) is the easiest and best way to showcase your style and love where you live. As a wedding planner and stylist, I have a lot of pretty props and decor, and I infuse them throughout my home’s design. I love that I now have the space to showcase all of my pretty glassware, my great-grandmother’s white and gold china, special pieces that have been passed down to me, favorite finds from antique hunting with my mom, and all of my beloved books.

I’m definitely a Southern girl, so there are lots of Southern touches all around my home. Ultimately though, as much as I love living in a beautiful, inspiring home, I want to ensure that anyone who enters my home feels loved, welcome, and cared for! Hospitality and hostessing are a huge part of my heart, and I simply love opening my home to others. To me, that’s what makes it a home: sharing life, meals, and conversations together. As much as I love using beautiful decor and entertaining pieces, it’s really about the heart behind my home – and I believe that’s a very Southern thing, too! I always hope that my style reflects the true heart behind my home.
